📘 Introduction

The Mechanic Auto Body Repair Trade equips trainees with the skills required to restore and repair the structural and aesthetic components of motor vehicles. This includes body panel replacements, dent removal, frame alignment, and surface refinishing.

Duration: 1 Year (2 Semesters)

🔧 Core Responsibilities

During training, students are taught to:

  • Assess Vehicle Damage: Identify structural damage, corrosion, and cosmetic issues on body panels

  • Remove and Replace Panels: Dismantle damaged parts like doors, hoods, fenders, bumpers, and install new panels

  • Perform Dent Repairs: Use hammering, filler application, and pulling tools to reshape body surfaces

  • Realign Frames & Chassis: Operate hydraulic machines and jigs to restore frame dimensions

  • Cutting & Welding Operations: Use gas cutting and MIG/TIG welding techniques for body modifications

  • Surface Preparation: Sand, clean, and prep surfaces for painting and refinishing

  • Paint Application: Spray primers, base coats, and top coats using standard techniques and equipment

  • Polishing & Finishing: Use buffing machines and compounds to restore gloss and texture

  • Use Measuring Tools: Employ dial gauges, rulers, and angle finders for accuracy

  • Adhere to Safety Standards: Practice fire safety, PPE usage, and proper tool handling

  • Document Work Orders: Record repairs, replaced parts, and finish levels for quality checks

  • Work with Plastics & Composites: Repair bumpers, trims, and panels made from non-metallic materials
